Privacy Policy

By submitting any information about you and/or others within this website, you and they consent to its use as set out in this Privacy Policy.

The Policy explains how the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), as data controller, will process your personal information when you make an application for compensation.

How will we use your personal data? The information you supply may be used by the MIB and its agents for the purposes of claims administration, crime prevention and prosecution of offenders, research, management information, staff training, providing financial services/guidance, public relations, and debt administration and recovery.

Who else will have access to your data? Your personal data may be disclosed to third parties, including member insurers, law enforcement bodies, government departments, local authorities and other public or private bodies, where we are obliged or permitted by law to do so. This includes disclosures to third party managed databases of insurance claims used to help prevent fraud, and to regulatory bodies for the purposes of monitoring and/or enforcing the MIB’s compliance with any regulatory rules/codes.

Will we transfer data overseas? The Internet is a global medium and your information may therefore be transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA) en route. By submitting your information, you consent to any such transfer. In addition, your information may be transferred to any country, including countries outside EEA the where the transfer is necessary for the purposes of establishing, exercising or defending legal rights, obtaining legal advice, or in connection with any legal proceedings.

Your rights With limited exceptions you have the right to request a copy of the personal information the MIB holds about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (We charge £10 per information request.) Please address your request, with an appropriate fee, to the Compliance Manager, Linford Wood House, 6-12 Capital Drive, Milton Keynes, MK14 6XT (cheques should be made payable to the Motor Insurers' Bureau).

Cookies A 'cookie' is information that a website transfers to and stores on the hard drive of your computer so that it can remember something about you at a later time. A ‘cookie’ recognises you when you return to our website. MIB may collect information by ‘cookies’ about your computer including your IP address, operating system and browser type. This information is used to improve your use of our website and track visitor use of the website and to compile statistical reports on website activity. Retargeting This group of ‘cookies’ are used to control a form of marketing called Retargeting; When you visit a website that carries an MIB banner, a pixel on that banner sets MIB ‘cookies’ on the hard drive of your computer. When you visit one of MIB's websites the browser will identify the ‘cookie’ on the hard drive of your computer, and it will know if you have previously visited our website(s) or not, this is whether you clicked on our banner or simply passed over it. The type of information gathered by this process counts the hits to the website and/or banner(s) linked to an IP address and domain, this information is used by MIB in reporting statistical information.
